Don’t Decrease Your Home’s Value!

There are things that can actually decrease your home’s value. You definitely want to maintain or increase your value whether you plan on staying put or if you plan to sell soon. Take a look around and see if your property needs a little spiffing up.

Poor Exterior Paint – is your front door paint faded or scuffed? Time for a fresh coat of paint. Did you inherit or choose an offbeat color? If you like it, keep it. But, plan to paint it a neutral color before you list your home for sale.

Deferred Maintenance – don’t let small problems become big problems. Handle the leaky faucet, damaged siding or shingles sooner rather than later. It will cost you more if there is water damage or more siding or shingles blow off. Is your backyard shed or gazebo in poor condition? Fix it up or get rid of it!

Outdated Flooring – is your home full of carpet & vinyl flooring? When you’re ready to replace it for yourself, keep re-sale in mind. If you’re thinking of selling soon, definitely consider hard surface flooring such as vinyl plank, tile & wood.

Interior Colors – bold & dark colors (whether paint or wallpaper) are not on trend. Again, if you love it, keep it. But, remeber that neutral & light colors will attract buyers.

Poor Curb Appeal – is your yard in need of a little work. Plan your spring project now to add shrubs to empty spots, spread a little grass seed & clean up the edges. Too much landscaping can give the impression of too much work to a buyer, so don’t go overboard with specialty plants.
